For a given line segment, construct the perpendicular bisector using only a compass and a ruler.
A line segment is given, which is bounded by points A and B. Using a compass and a ruler, construct the mid-perpendicular. The classic way is to start at each end point and create an arc on both sides of the line; the perpendicular bisector then passes through the two intersections of the arc pairs.
Parts of the construction can be given for variation, e.g.
- both arcs of a circle around a point, one on each side of the line - a point of intersection of two arcs of a circle on one side of the line - both intersections
combined with the request to supplement the design drawing accordingly.
The size of the drawing can be specified in several steps. The drawing for the problem is always output in such a way that there is enough space left for the problem to be solved on the worksheet.
